Five years later, Aloud’s debut album leaves its light on
Most have come to know rock n’ roll band Aloud through their high-energy album Fan The Fury (2008) and their latest Exile (2010) thanks in large part to the hefty touring schedule accompanying each release. Leave Your Light On, Aloud’s debut released on May 2, 2006, did not have the benefit of a muscular touring itinerary, yet songs like “Release”, “Godspeed”, and “Beaches” have managed to persist as fan favorites and regular tunes on the set list.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of their first full-length album, Leave Your Light On, Aloud will be reducing the price of the record to $7 and including three previously unreleased bonus tracks with every purchase starting Monday, May 2.
Leave Your Light On—which was produced by Hugh Wyman (OldJack, The Luxury, Baby Strange) and both mixed and mastered by Tom Polce (Kay Hanley, Buffalo Tom, Street Dogs)—had a very positive reception upon its release. The Boston Phoenix gave it three out of four stars, saying, “…it evokes the glory days of FM radio… Aloud are on a mission to return earnestness and ambition to rock.” Jonathan Perry, writing for Stuff Magazine, complimented Leave Your Light On as “a bold, self-assured album full of big guitars [and] bigger hooks….” Performer Magazine praised Aloud’s first effort, saying they “are a part of the new wave of bands that pray not at the altar of greasy garage noise but that of hooky melody.”
Aloud received several award nominations in 2006 and 2007 on the strength of Leave Your Light On and the live shows in support of the record (Best Vocalist*†, Best CD*, Best Guitarist*). Additionally, the album’s producer Hugh Wyman received a Best Producer* nomination, and Lemon Merchant Records—hey, that’s us—received a nod for Best Label*. The album was added to the rotation of nearly 100 radio stations nationwide, and climbed as high as #2 on CMJ charts in markets the band had never been to previously. Here in Boston, Leave Your Light On entered at #5 in The Noise Top 30 Radio Chart.
All in, it wasn’t a bad haul for a debut record!
The Leave Your Light On anniversary sale begins this Monday, May 2 and ends Sunday, May 8. Downloads and CDs may be purchased through the Aloud Store.
